Empowerment of out of School Adolescent Girls
Bonga SF project is a social and economic empowerment programme developed to target, out of school adolescent girls aged 12-18 years. The intervention has been implemented by Aridland Development Programme in partnership with Stromme Foundation with funding from NORAD. The goal of the project is to increase the standard of living of the young girls through increasing awareness in life related issues, acquiring of knowledge/literacy, professional and life skills with a view to make the young girls independent.
For the year 2016 the programme supported 240 girls from Kotido District in Nakapelimoru Sub County in the parishes of Watakau and Lookorok. To contribute to the achievement of the goal in the reporting period, the intervention established 8 learning centers, conducted community sensitization in two parishes, selected240 girls, recruited and formed 8 Bonga Support Teams, recruited and trained 8 animators. Adolescent girls underwent a 6 months life skills training and a one month’s IGA training in beading, bakery and weaving which form the core for the success of the intervention.
